The Toddler Community
The Montessori Toddler Community is a unique educational environment designed specifically for children ages 2 to 3 years. Rooted in the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, this fosters independence, self-discovery, and a love for learning through hands-on experiences tailored to the developmental needs of toddlers.
Little Hands, Big Skills!
Our Toddler classrooms are carefully designed to meet the needs of young children and support their growing independence. This prepared environment has everything scaled to the toddler’s size and arranged in an orderly, inviting way. Materials are accessible and purposeful, encouraging exploration and self-directed activity. This environment helps toddlers feel secure and confident as they learn to make choices, concentrate, and engage in meaningful work. By fostering curiosity and independence, the prepared environment lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and builds the foundation for academics and social relationships for the years to come.
Independence
One of the core tenets of the Montessori Toddler Community is fostering independence. Children are encouraged to perform simple tasks such as pouring water, dressing themselves, and caring for their environment. These activities build confidence and help toddlers develop fine motor skills while learning responsibility and self-sufficiency.
Practical Life
Even at this young age, toddlers are so capable. They are able to accomplish meaningful tasks like pouring their own water, putting on their shoes, and helping care for their classroom. These activities are more than just practical—they build confidence and give toddlers a sense of accomplishment. At the same time, they strengthen gross and fine motor skills and teach responsibility, laying the foundation for self-sufficiency and self-worth.
Language Development
Language acquisition is a natural and joyful process at this age. Our environment is rich in conversation, songs, and storytelling, allowing children to expand their vocabulary and express themselves. Our guides model clear, respectful communication and introduce materials that support early literacy skills.
Sensorial Exploration
Toddlers learn through their senses, and our classrooms are prepared with materials that invite exploration of color, texture, sound, and shape. These sensorial experiences help children refine their perceptions and lay the foundation for cognitive growth.
Movement and Coordination
Physical development is supported through activities that promote balance, coordination, and gross motor skills. From climbing and walking to simple exercises, toddlers have opportunities to move freely and develop control over their bodies.
Grace and Courtesy
Building community is at the heart of our Montessori Toddler program. In this environment, toddlers begin learning how to connect with others—sharing materials, taking turns, and working together in simple, joyful ways. Through these interactions, they start to develop empathy and an understanding of friendship. Grace and Courtesy lessons are the guide to everyday social interactions. Our guides gently model kindness and respect every day, creating a safe and loving space where each child feels valued, supported, and secure.
